masters of the disasteroid!
The Masters of the Disasteroid! was an interactive, “choose your own” adventure and ideas challenge for children. The competition was a platform to crowdsource solutions that address the potential threat of collision that near-earth objects pose.
The competition platform provided educational resources to brief the challengers about the promises and perils of asteroids. Participants were given a timeline to design their own solutions to one of five challenges and were encouraged to document or prototype their ideas at school, local maker-spaces, or fabrication labs.
An online voting component allowed participants to judge and discuss their peer submissions based on specific scientific criteria. Through a partnership with DIY, all participants were awarded an astronomer merit badge. Additionally, their work was shared with SpaceGAMBIT and NASA, the competition sponsors.
